The Council Of Trent
The Council of Trent, held between 1545 and 1563, was held to deal with all the corruption, reaffirm the Roman Catholic Beliefs, and to deal with attacks made by Protestants. The Council was not meant to last for 18 years however because of plague, wars, death of Popes, and lack of interest it was dragged out. The main outcomes of the Council Trent were:
· The council forbade most of the corruption going on amongst the priests and bishops.
· All the priests and bishops who had no training, but took the role because of money or family connections were told to reside.
· From them on no one could be a bishop until they had completed the extensive training.
· The Council forbade Bishops collecting taxes.
· Abuse of Indulgences was frowned upon.
In Summary the Council of Trent taught that salvation does come from God however it also needs human cooperation. By human cooperation they meant being very faithful and committing selfless and good actions. They also taught that the source of faith came from scripture and tradition.
